Mavoor is a town in the district of Kozhikode in Kerala. The town is some 20 Kms from the city of Kozhikode. During ancient times, the grass used for building the houses used to be stored here. Hence, it was called as Pulparampu. Pul means grass in Malayalam and Parampu in Malayalam means field. Setting up of Grasim factory by Birla led to the development of the village which resulted in the setting up of schools, police station, transportation, hospitals, etc. Since the pollutants from the factory affected the Chaliyar River, it led to the closure of the factory in the year 2002.
Geography of Mavoor
Mavoor is situated at 11o15’35”N and 75o56’55”E. The town is situated 20 Km to the east of city of Kozhikode beside Chaliyar River.

Tropical climate prevails in Mavoor and the town enjoys significant rainfall during most of the months. The town experiences summer during March to May. June to September is the rainy season during which South West Monsoon sets in. During June and July, the town suffers from floods. The climate of Mavoor is classified as Am by Koppen-Geiger. The annual average temperature is 27.4oC and the annual precipitation is 3093 mm.
