About Mavoor

Mavoor is a town in the district of Kozhikode in Kerala. The town is some 20 Kms from the city of Kozhikode. During ancient times, the grass used for building the houses used to be stored here. Hence, it was called as Pulparampu. Pul means grass in Malayalam and Parampu in Malayalam means field. Setting up of Grasim factory by Birla led to the development of the village which resulted in the setting up of schools, police station, transportation, hospitals, etc. Since the pollutants from the factory affected the Chaliyar River, it led to the closure of the factory in the year 2002.
